# Dynamic Discounts for Idealo

> Use dynamic discounts to lower your Idealo price without changing the regular price in your Shopify store — only shoppers who come through the marketplace get the discount.

Dynamic discounts let you win a better position on Idealo without lowering your regular shop price. PricePirate creates a discount with its own offer link: only shoppers who arrive through the marketplace get the lower price — your Shopify price stays unchanged for everyone else.

## The problem with across-the-board price cuts

To rank near the top on Idealo, you often have to lower the price. But cut it directly in Shopify and the lower price applies everywhere: in your own store, to repeat customers, and on every other connected channel. A good Idealo rank then costs you margin across the board — even where the discount was never needed.

Dynamic discounts separate the two: the competitive price applies on the marketplace only, while your regular price stays your default.

<Note>
  Idealo is the price comparison site German shoppers check before they buy. International Shopify merchants selling into Germany or Austria can compete on price there without touching their home-market pricing.

## How dynamic discounts work

<Steps>
  <Step title="Enable dynamic discounts">
    You unlock dynamic discounts shop-wide and enable them per product — individually or through a pricing strategy template. Only then does a price decrease create a discount instead of a direct price change.
  </Step>

  <Step title="The strategy generates a discount">
    When your pricing strategy lowers a variant's price, PricePirate does not overwrite your shop price. Instead it creates a Shopify discount code and an offer link that applies the discount automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Shoppers get the discounted price">
    Through the offer link, the shopper reaches the cart with the discount already applied. On the product page, the optional discount box shows the discounted price and the code.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Idealo advertises the lower price">
    Your marketplace feed reads the offer link and the discount amount and advertises the lower price on Idealo — while your regular shop price stays unchanged.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Lower only on the marketplace

The discount goes only to whoever buys through the offer link or with the code. Your regular price in the shop stays in place. So you can fight the price war on Idealo without sacrificing margin on direct sales and other channels.

Each discount runs for a configured duration (default: 24 hours). When a new decrease creates another discount, the offer link always advertises the current price.

## With guardrails, like repricing

Dynamic discounts use the same guardrails as the rest of [Idealo repricing](/docs/en/solutions/idealo-repricing). Every strategy enforces:

* A **minimum price** that is never crossed — as a fixed value or as a [minimum margin](/docs/en/guide/pricing/min-margin) calculated from your costs.
* A target price that must be **below the regular price**; a higher target is flagged invalid and never applied.
* A log that keeps every applied change traceable.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="How are dynamic discounts different from repricing?">
    With classic repricing, PricePirate writes the new price straight to Shopify — it then applies everywhere. A dynamic discount leaves your regular price untouched and lowers the price only through the offer link and the discount code.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do all customers see the discount?">
    No. Only shoppers who come through the offer link or enter the code get the discounted price. Your regular price stays visible in the shop.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I need the discount box in my theme?">
    The discount box shows the discounted price and the code on the product page. The discount also works without it through the offer link — without the box it is simply not displayed on the product page.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does this work with my Idealo feed?">
    Your marketplace connector reads the offer link from the variant metafields. It needs to support Liquid templates. If your connector does not use Liquid, use a supported connector such as idealo EasyConnect.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What does it cost?">
    Dynamic discounts are part of PricePirate. You can find the current plans on the [pricing page](https://pricepirate.com/en#pricing).
