Frequently asked questions

Answers to commonly asked questions about PricePirate

What does PricePirate actually do?
PricePirate monitors your competitors' prices across channels like Idealo, Google Shopping, and more, then automatically repositions your offers based on rules you set. You decide the strategy: undercut by a set margin, hold a target rank, or never drop below your minimum price. We handle the repricing around the clock.
How does PricePirate identify and match my products?
Matching is done by GTIN/EAN, which is required for each product. Using these identifiers, PricePirate reliably matches your products against listings across 80+ marketplaces with 99.7% accuracy, so the competitor prices you're reacting to are genuinely the same product, not a near-miss.
How often does PricePirate update my prices?
You're in control of the cadence. Define how many price updates per day you want, up to 16, and PricePirate spreads them across the day. When pricing pressure spikes in a specific window, you can boost the update frequency for that period so you react fast exactly when it matters.
Does PricePirate make sure my minimum margin is protected?
Yes. Every strategy is backed by a floor you define per product – as a minimum margin or a minimum price. PricePirate holds at that floor rather than chasing a competitor into a loss. Your guardrails always win over the repricing rule.
Do I have to let it change prices automatically?
No. You can run in monitoring-only mode to see what PricePirate would do, review suggested prices, and approve them manually. Auto-apply is a switch you turn on when you trust the strategy.
Which marketplaces and channels are supported?
PricePirate works across a wide range of price comparison and marketplace channels, including Idealo, Google Shopping, Allegro, Klarna, PriceRunner, and more.
Does PricePirate list my products on these marketplaces?
No. PricePirate only reads price data from the connected channels to inform your repricing – it doesn't create or manage listings on your behalf. Your products stay listed wherever you already sell them; we just track the competitive prices around them.
What are dynamic discounts?
Dynamic discounts let PricePirate lower your price on marketplaces like Idealo through a generated discount link, without changing your regular Shopify price. Only shoppers who arrive via that link (or use the code) get the lower price, so you improve your marketplace position without discounting across your whole storefront. Learn more about dynamic discounts.
What's the difference between dynamic pricing and dynamic discounts?
Dynamic pricing changes your actual shop price, so the new price applies everywhere you sell. Dynamic discounts lower the price only through the marketplace offer link – your regular shop price stays the same, and the discount reaches just the shoppers who come through that link.
Can I import my products and costs in bulk?
Yes. You can import products, unit costs, and minimum prices via CSV (or pull them from your connected shop), and export your data the same way whenever you want.
Is there an API?
Yes, two of them. The Price Data API lets you pull competitor and market price data programmatically, so you can feed it into your own dashboards, BI tools, or pricing logic. The Admin API lets you manage your account itself: products, pricing strategies, guardrails, and settings, so you can automate setup and run PricePirate as part of your own systems.
Can PricePirate handle custom pricing strategies?
Absolutely. The built-in strategies cover most cases, but if you have specific needs or a unique setup in mind, get in touch and tell us your requirements. We'll help you build a pricing approach that fits.
This sounds complicated. Do I have to figure it out on my own?
No. We guide you through the setup, from connecting your channels to dialing in your first strategies. And since good pricing is rarely one-size-fits-all, we give you personalized advice on dynamic pricing so your configuration genuinely fits your products, your market, and your margins.
Is dynamic pricing legal?
Yes. Dynamic pricing is legal across major markets including the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland. Sellers are free to set and adjust their own prices, as long as they do so independently and in line with the usual price-transparency and consumer-protection rules. How you price remains your own responsibility as the seller; PricePirate is a tool that executes the strategy you define.
